Our rugs are simple in design, yet striking and very appealing to the contemporary decorator or interior designer. The designs are mainly modest and geometric, and can be created in any colour combination.

mbala rugs are created by rural Zulu women in a small village in the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. They are woven on upright wooden looms, using high quality wool and a tight, flat weave. This ensures quality, durability and reversibility.

The Zulu weavers were taught their weaving skills by a weaver dedicated to the upliftment of their impoverished circumstances. They have been in operation since 1984 and, through their weaving skills, are able to independently sustain their families. Their rugs enhance rooms in many homes, hotels, lodges and offices.

Mbala-the Zulu word for "colours", reflects the versatility of our product. Various designs and colours constitute our current collection which showcases an array of vibrant, earthy, neutral and African contemporary rugs. Clients can also custom design their own rug or custom order colours in the existing designs. With over 200 wool colour choices, clients can create a rug that will suit their own space.
